Lei earned his B.S. in Processing Equipment and Control Engineering and his Ph.D. in Chemical Process Equipment from Sichuan University (SCU) in 2012 and 2017, respectively, under the supervision of Prof. Liangyin Chu. From 2017 to 2018, he worked as an Assistant Research Fellow in the Laboratory of Water Chemistry and Corrosion at the Nuclear Power Institute of China. From 2017 to 2018, he worked as an Assistant Research Fellow in the Laboratory of Water Chemistry and Corrosion at the Nuclear Power Institute of China (NPIC). He then pursued postdoctoral training in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) from 2018 to 2020. In 2021, Lei joined the Dalian University of Technology (DUT) as an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department. His research is dedicated to pioneering a cutting-edge program focused on the design and synthesis of multifunctional surface and interface systems, addressing critical challenges in adhesion and friction across the fields of environment, energy, and health. Lei is an active member of the Chinese Society of Micron and Nanotechnology (CSMNT) and the International Nanomanufacturing Society (ISNM) and serves as a review expert for the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). He has led five research projects supported by the NSFC and industry commissions and has contributed to seven domestic and international research initiatives, securing a total funding of ¥ 31.35 million. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed papers in prestigious journals specializing in advanced surface and interface research, including Advanced Functional Materials, International Journal of Extreme Manufacturing, Small, Chemical Engineering Journal, Additive Manufacturing, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, Cell Reports Physical Science and Langmuir. In addition, he has applied for more than 20 invention patents, securing six authorized patents in China and one internationally, with two successfully implemented transformations. Lei has also presented his research at over 10 international conferences, delivering four invited keynote talks. His expertise is further recognized through his role as a reviewer for 14 esteemed scientific journals.
